Using Black Paper

Heather Applin June 30, 2014

I saw this demo of someone drawing with pencil crayon on black paper and the colors looked like they were glowing. It was a drawing of a parrot and was amazing. I put this idea on my mental to do list. Here is my first drawing on black paper, simple classic subject that is easily relatable. The rose. It was challenging picking out what colour to use as they seem to work different that the white paper. I never used my white colour so much in a drawing before. It was very fun and I am happy how vibrant the solos look agains this paper. I am going to have to do another on black paper, thinking a yellow flower would be really nice.

Fruit still life, 2014

Heather Applin June 19, 2014

Here is another pencil crayon drawing. I choose to do fruit because of the vibrant colours it has when fresh. I particularly liked this colour combination and I find it a cheerful piece. Here is all the progress photos.

Buggy in Pencil Crayon

Heather Applin May 27, 2014

Another medium that I am learning but I have to say I am happy with this result. This was another attempt at the famous car that is found everywhere here in Villahermosa. No, I really mean everywhere, every street you will see a few to several. Some in good condition and others you wonder how they are still running. I always remember playing the punch buggy game as a kid. You know the one where if you see on you get to punch the person by you and say "red punch buggy no returns". So when we got here with the kids we taught them the game. It was real fun for maybe a week, then, because there is so many here we had to stop playing. I still love this car, maybe one day, when I don't need a van to be the mommy taxi, I can get one.
