Drawing - In the Sand

Heather Applin June 3, 2014

What is one of the first things that you do to - I mean - with your kids at the beach. Dig a big hole, make them get in a burry them. I can't, off the top of my head remember how many times I have buried my children over the years. Here my son was so serious about this task. All that know him know what I mean when I say he was serious. He sets his face and sometimes he'll use his famous frown (I will have to try to capture that one later), typical Daniel.

Artistically, I found this pose to be a difficult one. The angle of the face of tilted backwards and capturing that was rather stressful. I was really worried at the first stage, I was even hesitant to post it for fear this one may get tossed. But after I added the hair, things started to look promising. Maybe everyone needs to get a portrait done in the sand.

Swimming Baby, a.k.a Baby Nicole

Heather Applin May 26, 2014

Another photo album treasure to help increase my portrait abilities. This one is of my oldest daughter Nicole who now is about to turn 13. Where the time goes I still do not know. I hope to do one of her soon that is more recent, she is turning into a beautiful young lady. But first I am going to have to do one of my son. He is wondering where his picture is now that I have done one of each of his sisters.

Creating Miss Goofy, a.k.a - Amber age 3

Heather Applin May 24, 2014

I love this picture of my daughter Amber. I was going though the photo albums to find some material to work on my portrait skills and came across this one. We were on a family vacation several years ago when she was 3 years old. We stopped by a hat booth in Disneyworld and tried on many hats. I had several photos to pick from but this one really expresses her personality as well. As everyone that meets her knows she is always bringing smiles and laughter to everyone, my little goofy, I love you. I included a couple other pics of the stages I drew her in and the reference photo I used.
